shelby + landon // engagement photos in heritage park

As we dive into this industry, we have discovered that developing strong relationships with our couples is crucial for a couple of reasons. For one, getting casual is 10x easier on everyone when we’re all friends. If our couple is comfortable then we can connect on a personal level and create authentic and meaningful content for us both. And two, our couples are investing in us as a business and relying on us to capture a really precious season in their lives. We owe it to them to build a relationship with them and it’s so important to us! So when we have a couple like Shelby + Landon, it makes us so so happy to be doing what we’re doing.

Shelby is actually a long-time friend of Ali’s (I mean, like, early elementary school-played-barbies-made-home-music-videos-together kind of friendship) and so taking her engagement photos was an experience we will cherish forever. Fun fact: Ali actually shot Shelby’s senior photos circa 2011! On October 5th, we met the two at Heritage Park in Olathe and it ended up being the most beautiful fall evening - we hit it right at magic hour so that was just a bonus.

I don’t think there was a single moment Shelby wasn’t smiling or laughing at Landon. She was just so happy to be with him! And Landon never hesitated to pull Shelby close or love on her, so sweetly, we might add. It was the kind of session you leave feeling energized. They were on a romantic date for two and we were just there. Sidenote: they’re both extremely attractive. Real talk did they pay us or did we pay them to come model for us…?

We’re shooting their wedding this December (eek, SO excited!) at Mildale Farms in Gardner, Kansas and we cannot wait. These two have been so good to us- shout out to Shelbs for sending each of us $5 out of the blue to “get a marg on me” because “you deserve the world”. WHAT, WE DON’T DESERVE HER!!??! Anyways, we could go on and on about how wonderful these two are but just take a peek at some of their engagement photos and see for yourselffffff —— <3

the propati family // grinter farms

A close friend of 10 years + her new family + kansas sunflowers + sunsets = pure bliss.

Breanna and Joey met while they were attending school in California. Breanna was working in the front office and Joey was a student- it was scandalous. (JK, you guys, omg she’s going to kill me!!!) Less than a year in they knew they were totally going to get married and have babies. They made it official on a beautiful August afternoon in her grandparents backyard in Pasadena, I cried all of my make-up off. And when they announced baby Emerald was on her way the next summer, it was a freakin’ weep fest.

Breanna grew up in KS and wanted to celebrate her sunflower roots in her little family’s first official pictures. So Grinter Sunflower Farms was the ideal location. We could not have asked for a more chill baby- can you believe little Gem is only 6mos old? Look at that lax disposition (she gets it from her cali dad, for sure). We were racing sunlight but thanks to our models (peep everyone’s blue/green eyes- swoon) we knocked out all of the shots we wanted in about 45minutes. This shoot was so meaningful to both of us. We hope Breanna comes back for the next one- maybe with another tiny?? ;)

mod 60's styled shoot // 2016 main

Let me tell you - styled shoots are the BEST. You get to collab with super talented vendors in your own city, spend the day capturing their work AND walk away with some new friends and connects.

I met with this team at 2016 Main Event Space, smack in the heart of KC, and spent the morning with the fabulous David and Amber Eames who ‘renewed’ their vows for this shoot. They’ve been married 14 (!!) years and were so wonderful to work with. And hot - I mean check them out!!

Every vendor went above and beyond for this shoot. The Cottage Rose supplied the beautiful greenery and florals that you see, East and West Designs created the very mod-60’s-like invitations (printing by Sal Studios), Bumble Bakery was responsible for the ADORABLE cakes + macaroons and Lexie Penichet Photography was there by my side all day capturing stills (and they’re, no surprise, amazing!).

Other vendors to note: Janay A Eco Bridal supplied the RAD dress, Houndstooth provided the smooooooth suit on the groom, Chressin Orstad made the bride look all fancy +beautiful the morning of (check out that eyeliner wing!!!), Boomerang supplied the shoes and Blue Heron Design offered the jewelry (fun fact: her earrings are butterfly wings, WHAT)

And NONE of this would have been possible without the gals behind My Paper Heart Events. They approached us with this shoot months prior and were SO helpful in getting this put together. Not to mention, their vision for this mod-60’s dream was executed perfectly and its all thanks to them. This was such a unique theme and we LOVED being apart of it.
